"Minor Setback On The Knives"

I went to the shop bright, and early this morning to start the final assembly on a few knives. So I got the ball detents in, the phosphor bronze washers, the blade, and the pivot all together. Next I went to put the 1/16 ss dowel in for the lock stop, and I realized I didn't mill the relief in the lock bar deep enough to account for the detent ball. Everything is line on line with no room to actuate the lock bar.
Well no big deal, I just had to set up that opp. again, and re cut the slot several thousandths deeper in all the frames.
That took the whole morning to complete, so I was only able to assemble 2 knives just to be sure all is well now.
We have plans for tomorrow, so if time permits during the week I'll get to a few more. Next Saturday though it will be a production line day
Just thought I'd keep you all up to date, Kenn

Great news Kenny :) nothing but a minor setback ;)

it truly is a learning process right to the very end eh. A week or two won't kill the fans, just builds more anticipation hehe

Have a great weekend my friend.

Wes,
Just a bummer, as I was hoping to get at least 4 of them ready to ship on Monday.
I'm excited for some hands on feedback.

Kenn,

This precision: "re-cut the slot several thousandths deeper in all the frames" is truly amazing machining precision.
This attention to detail and precision is amazing. These frames and lockbars are like Swiss timepieces!
These knives are cutlery jewelery.

Thanks for your dedication to detail and precision!

Hey,
Nothing but the best for you guys...;)

A couple of thousandths is easy.
Try holding a couple of tenths. That's .0002.
Now do it with a .006 diameter end mill.
Keep in mind the average hair, or piece of paper is .004 thick.

Kenn,

Nothing but the best sums it up, very well!

I know the detail you put into your Metal Art!

I am looking forward to the series of knives. Keep em coming!

Wes,
Haven't done any yet.
On the way to work Monday, I had a wheel bearing go on the truck.
I managed to get lucky, and my mechanic hooked me up w/ an appt. on Tuesday morning.
So I had to go back to the shop Monday night to get stuff done to go out for EDM. Tuesday I made it to work at noon, and stayed late to make up some time as well.
It took 2 hours to plow the driveway this morning. In a normal storm I can do it in about 45 min. Our driveway is 590', and I use my 4 wheeler to plow it. We got about 20" all together.
